Comments Thread For: Kirkland: I Didn't Prepare for Canelo Fight the Way I Needed To

Ann Wolfe will make sure James Kirkland prepares better for his fight against Miguel Cotto than he did for his last fight. Wolfe didn't work with Kirkland for his third-round knockout loss to Canelo Alvarez in May 2015, but she has returned to his team to help him prepare for his February 25 showdown with Cotto in Frisco, Texas. Their 12-round junior middleweight match, the headliner of an HBO Pay-Per-View event, was officially announced during a press conference Monday at The Ford Center at The Star, the Dallas Cowboys' training facility and the site for their fight.

This fight reminds of when Cotto picked out Mayorga.

Mayorga was stopped by Trinidad, Dela Hoya, and Mosely (and almost double KO'd vs Vargas when both guys nearly had heart attacks during the fight) and seen as pre-chewed food for Cotto.

He'll do better now because he's not fighting the cash cow, he's fighting someone who is on the way out so it'll be a legit fight

Cotto has more skill likely than anyone Kirkland has fought. Canelo has skill, but Canelo didn't land very many clean shots on Cotto, and at no time was Cotto hurt by him. That was over a year ago though, so we'll see if that year has affected him.

We know James, but unfortunately even the NSAC will not let you wear a helmet in the ring and use a baseball bat.

always an excuse when someone loses. usually weight issues or a bad training camp are the old classics

They might let him wear the helmet, especially if he plans on falling down like a crash dummy again.
