Matthysse is a broken fighter. It all started with the decision loss to DSG that his fans debated against at all cost. Then he suffered those hard 2 KD's vs Molina, an finally was stopped by Postol. He really looked broken at the end of that Postol fight. Let's see if he can come back.
At least he's finally moving to the US to train, albeit 3 years too late. He has some work to do to convince people he's still a factor at the top level. Porter would be a good opponent for him this time next year.
It's good that he's coming to train with Diaz but I'm afraid it's probably too late. He could have done great things if he had a better trainer early. But the guy has been in some very bruising fights. Now he's coming off a very long layoff and an eye injury. I also think he's too small for the division. I just can't see him winning a title at this point.

That's a negative, ghost rider. He's gonna get built up then fed to someone.

His biggest shortcoming was his handspeed. It made him reluctant to let his hands go. He had a good boxing brain and would get into position to score, but unlike Maidana for example, he would wait and probe for the perfect opening rather than take what was available.
I thought Roach or Robert Garcia would both have been good for him. Guys who are offensively minded and could have given him
the small number of tricks to initiate offence that he needed.
At this point I would have to wonder if the physical deterioration has gone too far as well. The Provodnikov fight was brutal and his eye was badly damaged against Postol. If his mindset is right he could do it. But when Maidana lost badly to Alexander he moved to the states and worked under Garcia to get back to the top. Matthysse not doing that sooner raises questions about how badly he wants it at this point.
Think he should have changed up his training a while ago. Think a guy like Abel Sanchez would have been a good fit for him. With the eye and his mental lack of desire in his last fight I don't know and doubt if he can get back to the top, but I'd love to see it.
