Thing with Bhop is everyone has been expecting him to get old for 15 years now. He was supposed to be too old for Tito, then he was supposed to be too old for Tarver, then he was supposed to be too old for Pavlik, especially after what we saw with Calzaghe and so on. Yet even now, aged 51 most expected him to beat Smith. Yet in rounds 6 and 7 he seemed to age in front of our very eyes.

This is in complete contrast to Ali v Holmes for example.

I often talk about the level of self delusion you need to be the best or among the best in anything. I think that level of self delusion in a super competitive sport, like boxing, where guys get seriously brought down to reality in an unfortunate moment is super common largely because of that self delusion. Its a natural byproduct of what got you to the level you reached in your peak, your prime.

I mean you can go back way further than you did as you said & see this its so common. Being realistic about the level of talent & skill you have left isn't something most of these guys are very good at & if they were good about it they likely would have never reached the level they reached cuz they'd been too careful or never worked hard enough in the beginning.
