If you fight more than once and one of them is a fight against the next best guy in the division then you deserve recognition...

    Crawford completely dominant
Ward, close controversial decision but against an elite fighter plus 2 other wins
Lomachenko dominated Walters and Martinez like they were cab drivers
Frampton 2 good wins although I think Leo is a bit overrated and Quigg is just ehh
Smith Jr kid knocked out Fonfara and BHOP enough said
Charlo if the Trout fight was in 16 then he had a great year
    Pacman 2 top 10 wins

My boy Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez. Keeping it in context Arroyo should of been IBF world champion whooping Ruerong ( dropping him ) in Thailand and then RG jumped up to face arguably the #1. ranked fighter at the time winning in FOTY candidate for his fourth title in four weights...a UD not a robbery like Carl Frampton or some opponent that quit on the scales last year and quit again in a actual fight -- I'm talking about Nicolas Walters in the Case of Lomachenko.

Then we can add Shinsuke Yamanaka becoming bantamweight lineal champion in a division that hasn't claimed a true lineal champion since 1987 against Anselmo Moreno by KO...but hold up! Liborio Solis!!! oh yeah Yamanaka got Solis in 2016 : now some of you guys or I should say most of you guys don't follow the lower weights who is Solis? better ask Jamie McDonnell ; this was the robbery of the year! Solis like Arroyo should of been champion at 118...its not up for debate in Solis's case even the Sky team had him beating McDonnell.

Choco-Yamanaka both made history, A P4P champion at the time of his reign challenges himself again after becoming lineal to win another crown and my boy Yamanaka re-establishing lineage after a 29 year drought!

              Frampton
              loma

Two more that posters agree on
Yeah but the thing about people who vote for Povetkin or AB is that they'll be the only ones, and their picks most likely don't make the cut

Yeah. If Jos Smith Jr doesn't win. He should get special mention for that reason.

                  Frampton is my #1 choice.

But I'll also play devils advocate and throw in Kovalev in there. He's had a great year. Beat down Pascal when he was a top contender, took the tough fight against Chilemba, then fought a P4Per. If he got the benefit of the doubt against Ward and emerged the victor, I think he would be getting a large share of votes.

Frampton for me. Two solid wins, one which i feel is a little underrated , while the other was one where he moved up in weight and beat a guy many thought he wouldn't.

I don't think this year has an easy choice, but I'm tempted with Carl Frampton or Gonzalez. It's a really close call for me. Lomachenko had the better, more inspiring performances and against solid guys while moving up, but Walters coming off the nearly year long layoff gives Frampton the edge for me there. Frampton showed up and showed out versus Quigg, altho that may have been an easy prediction, it was a meaningful fight. He also fought well versus Cruz. Then you have Gonzalez making history again, two good wins and moving up. Gonzalez is probably more impressive for me and would be my first choice.

I have to mention others just to give credit; Joe Smith, great year for him. Underdog story of the year.

Honorable mentions: Kovalev/Ward if you're feeling kind to either, but they lose points for the Chilemba/Brand fights and their own fight.

Pacquiao. I'm sure if it was any other welter this year that beat Bradley and Jessie Vargas, coming off good wins, there would be a lot more hype about it, but we get caught up in comparing Manny Pacquiao against 2008 Manny Pacquiao so we lose perspective of what he actually did. That's a really solid year for any welterweight.

Terrence Crawford, another solid year for him, but nothing too grand with guys like Lundy and Molina. For similar reasons, I'm not counting Golovkin or Canelo, no matter how dominant they looked.

It's a tough call, really. I'll be content with either Gonzalez or Frampton or Loma. If I start comparing Quigg to Bradley, and opponent to opponent p4p, I'll end up thinking about this far longer.
