Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr. Says Golovkin, Canelo, DeGale, Jack on The Hit List

Former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32KOs) is very eager to face the biggest names possible in 2017. He returned to the ring this past Saturday night in Mexico and won a hard-fought ten round unanimous decision over German contender Dominik Britsch.

I feel for this guy that he has been wasting his prime years not making weight and taking year layoffs. He's a lot of fun to watch when he trains properly and is mentally focused. I don't think Freddie was the guy to do that for him. He needs someone that won't take him straying from the path. I don't he beats either Canelo or GGG at middleweight, though (if he could even make that anymore). None of those fights would go the distance, so they'd be a lot of fun to watch.

Chavez Jr has always been a solid, tough fighter. He has wasted a great portion of his career and the advantages given to him through Senior. He would need one hell of a run through the big names to even attempt to redeem himself.

So why no mention of Gilberto Ramirez? Surely that makes financial sense!

They can run, but they can't hide.

That's exactly what I was thinking? Why not get a title from Zurdo first? I'm sure Arum would make the fight with Haymon.

We know the only thing this stoner is gonna be hittin!! Hit list, lol!

In all seriousness, I hope he can get his act together and make some cash but the dude is just going to be a punching bag for the top fighters. He's going to need a good win to become/stay relevant...

Vera, Reyes, and Britsch were all MW's, and Chavez struggled with them and got by with his size. Gilberto Rameriz would dice him up like Fonfara did and Porky Medina would bludgeon him over the distance.

I don't see any way GB would trust Chavez to make 164 for an Alvarez fight. His best bet for a money fight would be GGG, unless Haymon funds big money for the winner of DeGale/Jack. Even then, whoever wins that fight will have a WBC (Smith) and IBF mandatory to make right away.

I do like a Chavez/Quillin fight though. I think Chavez could take Pete's over hand right long enough to hurt Quillin.

Chavez doesn't beat ANY of these fighters. And if you a promoter how on earth can you trust him to make 168? Let alone these fantasy dreams of him making 164 catchweight to fight superwelterweight and middleweights (Canelo or GGG)? Do people realize before sat he has ONLY made 168 once since 2012. You can't even trust him to make 170! And it took what a 6-8 months full of delays just to make 168 on sat. I don't trust him making 168 to fight super middleweights and people think he should fight guys who is naturally 2 or more weight classes bigger then knowing it's likely he can't make the weight.
