Its actually not good that the better match and card in showtime did nothing compared to this mismatch.

I'm still not buying Crawford - hasn't fought anyone impressive to me. Imagine Manny or Floyd fought the guys he's fought - they'd be killed for being cherry picker - but he can fight mediocre opposition and be talked about for Fighter of the Year and pound for pound?
I suppose it's not all his fault - he's in a historically weak 140 lb division.
Side bar - Chocolatito is fighting in a weak division and just received a gift and is lb for lb 1 - so boxing is really a joke right now. So I see the new trend in boxing is to gas up guys on win streaks who fight weak competition.Comment

At least when Haymon was at HBO, or his guys were with Oscar, there was a mix. His fighters still ducked, but at least they were in the mix with the A-League of boxing. But now Haymon's boxing product has become so disconnected, it's basically it's own little irrelevant planet. There are plenty of good fighters but GGG, Kovalev, Lomachenko, Gonzalez, Crawford, even Ward if you want to include him as a semi-top guy, are all on HBO. Canelo is too. Pacquiao. So everything on Showtime just feels like it's irrelevant from the top level of boxing where the real movers and shakers are at in terms of actually competing to be the best in their weight range. Until Haymon guys start mixing with the best guys with other promoters, the fights won't really have any relevancy.
Like a lot of people watch the Cavs in the NBA, but imagine if they were in their own league with only like one other good NBA team, while the Warriors, Spurs, etc were still in the real NBA. If that happened, you could still appreciate the Cavs talent, but would you really care about their games, or who won? It wouldn't really matter because if they were never going to play in the NBA again or play the top teams, to decide who is really the best, then who cares? What's the point? What's the relevancy?
That is what has happened to Showtime boxing. The only difference is they actually have the quantity, but it doesn't matter because the Warriors, Spurs, Rockets, hell even the Cavs, are still in the other league. So until Haymon's guys can actually mix with where the most relevant guys are to determine who the best is, no one is going to care. Like Charlo-JRoc was cool, but we're left to ask how good are these guys really? All they've fought is Al Haymon B-sides and Austin Trout, who has one top win against out of shape Cotto 54 years ago, has no power at the top level of the sport, and was fighting a much bigger, stronger guy. And what has JRoc done to prove he's an A-level fighter either? So this fight was basically two D-League stars going at it. Yes, they look fast, talented, etc, but we can't truly know or feel it's relevant because we never got to see them in the NBA before they squared off.
That is the big problem with Showtime right now. And also, they've spread their product too thin on various networks.Comment

Al Haymon. No one but racially biased fans like his boxing product. Showtime has become basically the D-League of boxing. All the top P4P guys are at HBO. And even when guys with P4P talent fight on Showtime, they still can't get that recognition, or it doesn't feel the same, it's not as relevant, because they're still stuck in the Al Haymon D-League. So it's like is this guy really that good, or does it just look that way because he's fighting in the D-League?
