Referee Robert Byrd

One of the sub plots from the Ward fight was the questionable job done by the 74 yr. old Robert Byrd.
It turns out Byrd had back surgery in Dec. 2015 and had been out 9 months recuperating. The NSAC didn't disclose this fact to either camp. It makes you question if Byrd was physically able to break up clinches even if he had wanted to.

yeah he didnt do a good job of reffing at all, think we can all agree on that.

Damn there's no end of fools around this place. Byrd immediately broke up much of the clinching in the first half of the fight. It caused Ward a lot of frustration because it was clearly part of his game to work inside.
In the last half, Byrd let them work through clinches and it's partly why the dynamic of the fight changed.
