Comments Thread For: Hearn: Joshua-Klitschko Will Be Bigger Than Froch-Groves II

Anthony Joshua didn't just have a routine post-fight drug test to deal with after his latest win. The IBF heavyweight world champion retained his crown in devastating fashion at Manchester Arena on Saturday (December 10), exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office.

It's going to be big, but it lacks the animosity that fueled the excitement for Froch/Groves. Groves sold the **** out of his fights with Froch.

While there's no animosity, I believe the draw for this fight is bigger than both Froch/Groves fights for the following reasons:

1)Anthony Joshua is one of the hottest properties in boxing today and has a worldwide reputation that is expanding by the day, regardless of his opponents and their said abilities.
2)The heavyweight title is always a big deal compared to other divisions, maybe due to the Mohammed Ali history factor.
3)Joshua already has a worldwide profile because of his Olympic medal
4)Kiltchko, despite his age, is THE name in the heavyweight division. No disrespect, but the truth is Wilder is just not that well known. Klitchko name is synonymous with Lennox Lewis and David Haye whichwere both massively hyped fights around the world despite the controversial ending to both.
5)Regardless of American audience this fight will be extremely popular all around Europe, so it will be promoted like hell due to the German, Ukrainian and British connections. Froch/Groves was a domestic rivalry so not as popular outside the UK.
6)The American audience will be very interested as the winner will most likely face Wilder in a unification bout, Joshua has some exposure, which will no doubt be ramped up over the coming months.

I think it will outdo Froch vs. Groves II, being that it is a HW unification fight including a British gold medalist. Also, Wlad is loved in Europe.... On another note, I hate when people say titleholders are prospects. I don't care how many fights you have. Once you have a title, you should be fighting the best in your division and the word "prospect" should no longer be used to describe you.

Beating Groves on its own isn't a great win in regards to being considered a legendary fighter because what had Groves achieved at that point? Even today he is yet to grab a World title. So, it was really the atmosphere that made it, so once you take that way as in Joshua-Klitchsko being bigger than 80 K, what's left?

Hopefully it does bigger numbers, so Froch can stfu about the 80,000 i.e his claim to fame....

Although i am not hyped up for this fight, Wlad losing to Fury has kind of ruined this fight for me..

End of the day this is a 42 year old man, coming off a loss and a long lay off...fighting a young bull, who has been very active...

I have to analyse this fight before i pick a winner, at the moment i favor Jousha

Seems like it should be bigger. They've hyped the shyt out of AJ, I'd expect them to be able to get a huge draw out of him fighting a vulnerable Wlad.
