I think a little perspective is needed when examining this Charlo-Andrade beef, which actually isn't new.
Back in 2014, Andrade was supposed to defend his title against the other twin, Jermell.
In fairness to Demetrius, GBP announce the fight as a done deal without even negotiating with Andrade. Bad business move IMO.
They then offered him $250,000 and eventually went up to 300K.
It would have been a career high purse for Demetrius, but they turned it down.
Jermell wound up fighting someone else on the Alexander/Khan undercard and received only $50,000. For comparison, Abner Mares got $250,000 for a fight on the same card.
My personal take on this is that I'd love to see Andrade and the Charlo brothers in the ring. But, I see both sides of why it isn't happening.
All of them want the big money fight, and that is not necessarily against each other.
The Charlo brothers can rightfully ask what was up when Andrade had his chance back in 2014. They can now see themselves as more A-side to Demetrius and may feel that his prior 'duck" + his attitude + his risk/reward just doesn't add up to a fight they need to put as a priority. In other words "fugg him, he had his chance and now he can wait in line with the rest while we try for big things".
Andrade may feel that the Charlos and GBP have always disrespected them from the jump. They may feel that the way the whole thing has panned out was done on purpose as a way to look like they wanted the fight while actually avoiding it the whole time. A Charlo/Andrade fight for a belt is a co-main event type fight and GBP screwing up and announce the fight as done before any negotiation may have made them feel as it they were being lowballed. But, regardless of past history- and even if it is true they should have took the offer in 2014- Demetrius is 100% correct that only a Canelo or Lil g fight trumps a fight between the two (or three) men. And since Saul AND Gennady both seem to be looking elsewhere, it is the fight that MUST be made. And this includes a Lara fight, which is also great but less lucrative to one between them.
If folks are smart, they will find a way to get this done.
