Abner Mares (30-2-1, 15 KOs) scored an impressive, upset 12-round split decision over defending champion Jesus Cuellar (28-2, 21 KOs) to capture the WBA Featherweight World Championship and become a four-time boxing titlist Saturday in the main event of a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING doubleheader from Galen Center on the campus of USC in Los Angeles.

Amazing fight. It was pretty even, but that knock down turned it all around for Mares.

After LSC gets owned a second time by Frampton, it would seem a logical fight would be the Mares rematch. Then at some point soon, Mares meets Frampton. Wonder how those would go?

Frampton has better skills, but Mares could floor him with a right hand.

Mares is all heart, honor and courage. I'm glad he's back on top, always have been and will always be a huge fan of his. Through all the highs and lows, we are still here! Mares vs Russel/Frampton/LSC II/ Valdez all sound fun.

Yep. Or the other way 'round. Frampton nearly dropped LSC early. Doubt it's a smooth fight for either fighter.
