I was surprised by Mares. I though that after his defeat against Johny Gonzales, Abner was almost done. He proved me wrong. He was in the eyes of many the underdog and expected KO victim of Cuellar (who looks 2 division above Mares and is a KO artist). I still doesn't understand what fight was looking the judge that gave the fight to Cuellar. Abner won convincingly.

lmfao Bayless has the best seat in the house and had the worse score card you can possibly have for this fight lmfao.

and mares looked far from done, congratulations. would love to see him vs frampton, i think their styles will collide very well

Plus a lot of ****** people were saying Mares will be K.Oed for this monkey.
And well. Mares is a tremendous warrior and he deserves the win.

Great to see Mares back. The sport is better when he is active and fighting.
I'd like to see Mares fight the LSC/frampton winner or Russell next.

I never thought much of Cuellar; I saw his fight with Vic Darchinyan, he was training with Garcia and he just looked like the prototypical Robert Garcia fighter at the time; relying on size and strength. And the Ramos fight, same thing, big slow looping hooks. Mares is better schooled and he showed it, he answered Cuellar when he came out aggressive in round 1 and used his superior speed throughout the fight like he should have. But if I'm being honest, I didn't think Mares looked that good compared to what I've read about the fight, I certainly didn't see anything new like he turned back the clock, but he employed a basic gameplan after round 4/5, just stepping back, shooting straight punches, and it worked. I thought Cuellar was in the fight basically every round through 10, Mares just had the sharper work to take many of them. Well done to Mares, I'm sure it didn't hurt that Robert was already familiar with Cuellar. I still don't like how stationary his head is, but Mares took Cuellar's punches really well, extremely well.
I'm a little disappointed in Cuellar, I thought he could only improve with Roach because he looked so raw to begin with, but he looked near exactly the same, his attention to the body early on was good though, he wasn't looping his shots so much early either, but that's about it. It take may take more than one camp so we'll see how he learns from this experience.

Cuellar is ****, he is pure ****, in 130-135 he doesn't have a chance with Lyons of that division.
And Mares looked good, a little like the Mares of 118-122, boxing with skills and speed. Being smart.
And remember that he is a 122 pounds natural fighter and that this **** of Cuellar has like 13 pounds of more weight than him.
