  • Comments Thread For: Andy Ruiz: Everyone's Underestimating Me, But I'm In Great Shape

Andy Ruiz realizes he is widely viewed as the B' side of his heavyweight title fight Saturday against Joseph Parker. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Parker is the hometown hero, the young, hard-hitting heavyweight Bob Arum's Top Rank Inc. just signed to a promotional contract. A sellout crowd is expected at Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, where they'll want to see nothing other than Parker knock out his unbeaten American opponent to win the vacant WBO world heavyweight title.

"But when the bell rings we both flip the switch. I have a family to feed and I fight for them. This is a great opportunity for me and I’m not leaving New Zealand without that belt.”

Get you sum of that NZ!

lol, true. I'm less concerned about his physical shape and more interested on what his plan is to get inside on Parker. Parker can move and I don't see him standing there like a heavy bag as other Ruiz opponents have. That's really the only way Ruiz can be effective.
I do think that if he gets in, he hits hard enough he can fk up Parker's night.

Yeah man, shape wise its better for him to gradually get there by focusing on body fat% Theres no need for a heavyweight to cut weight itll hurt him in the long run. I think thats what did Arreola in, not that he was a great boxer but the body shaming had him cutting weight like a damn feather weight to impress fans on the scale but it hurt him in the long run....

With that said man, no matter what Ruiz says about always being the smaller guy and being used to it, this will always hurt him at HW especially as the level of opponent goes up and theres certainly a higher level than Parker out there...

You got this 100% right dude. This really throws me back to the first HW fight that got me interested in boxing - Tua-Lewis. Ruiz hasn't really fought anyone who can manage distance like Parker can, who knows if he's capable of cutting off the ring, getting inside and not being jabbed to death. If he can get inside though, he could make mince meat of Parker's face.

I sincerely hope that Kevin Barry remembers the Tua-Lewis fight, and what Lewis did to keep his boy Tua away. If he can apply those learnings, Parker should be okay.

But this could be an AWESOME fight.
