Was Calzaghe the Best Showman of this Era?

Joe Calzaghe not only dominated Jeff Lacy. He made it fun to watch most of the way. He did the same with Jones despite the early knockdown. His fight with Hopkins was even fun to watch and we all know Bernard is not the most entertaining. In fact, I haven't seen one Calzaghe fight that I would consider boring.

Did he have his flaws? Sure. Every fighter does. However, his high energy style was more fun to watch than anybody of recent times in my opinion.

I absolutely loved the Lacy fight, one I tend to watch over and over. The Roy Jones thing is nothing to brag about though, if I had a dead fish in front of me I could do the same thing

I thought the Jones was hilarious. Not a great fight by any means, but very funny to me.

I remember people was saying it was disrespectful to see Joe clowning Roy in the ring when Roy stood no chance...Yeah, like Roy never clowned his opponents back in the day when it was a total mismatch.

What the heck is "this" era?

You can't ask that question without defining it.

          Since the line isn't defined,

I'd say no - Mayorga and Hamed both are more entertaining showboaters than Calzaghe was imo.

I enjoyed it when he was around. But for me it was short. I had just found out who he was when he was announced to fight Lacy. Less than 3 years later he was already out of the game. Wish I could've seen him in a couple more interesting fights. Calzaghe vs. Froch or Ward would've been great to see

Very true. Those would have both been interesting. He was 36 years old with bad hands. It wasn't in the cards, but it would have been nice.

Same here. It's not the best fight ever, but I'll call it my favorite because I watch it at least once a year.

The Roy fight had crazy showmanship but it's brutal to see a legend get clowned like that so I've only watched it through a couple times.

While I didn't find it disrespectful, there is a big difference in Jones clowning other prime opponents who weren't as talented/good vs Joe clowning a washed up old fighter who hadn't done anything significant in years

Prince Hamed used to really agitate the hell out of me. I wanted to punch his ****** face inwards.

Because entertainment covers both adoration and frustration, I'd have to agree that he was a spectacularly entertaining showboater.
