CANASTOTA, NY - The International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum announced today the members of the Class of 2017. Inductees include three Modern category boxers who all enter the Hall in their first year of eligibility; Mexico's three-division champion "The Baby Faced Assassin" Marco Antonio Barrera,undisputed cruiserweight and heavyweight champion Evander "The Real Deal" Holyfield and three-division champion Johnny "Mi Vida Loca" Tapia (posthumous). Non-participants and observers to be inducted include Australian trainer Johnny Lewis, veteran judge Jerry Roth, journalist / broadcaster Steve Farhood and broadcaster Barry Tompkins.

so another year...no diego corrales...he deserves it....but recently we had gatti who died the same year, less talent, less accomplished get in....also Barry "friggin" Mcguigan in...rocky Marciano and many one hit wonders...is this the hall of fame or hall of popularity?

Hall of Fame includes many fighters for different reasons, some being the highest achievers, some capturing the imagination of the public. Some being somewhere in-between.
I think Corrales may make it yet, still time.

first off watch your mouth Internet tough guy. 2nd, sorry but his level of competition isn't overly impressive. He won his 1st title vs a guy with 22 losses and his 3rd vs a guy with 12 losses. What true top fighter has he ever beaten? Has he ever been considered a top pound for pound guy? I could make a stronger argument that a guy like mayorga should be a hall of famer.

Umm multiple weight champion, unified champion and had a long title reign. His resume is'nt the greatest, but his accomplishments can't be denied. He is more than worthy of the HoF.

My feelings exactly. He was 48 and 0 before he lost, and that was over two careers. He lost out on three years of his prime, and still had a great run over very good fighters, and Champions. Johnny was one of the best 115 lbs ever, and only lost when going up in weight against another great fighter in Ayala. This is no charity induction. He deserves it.

Johnny was one of the best 115 lbs ever, and only lost when going up in weight against another great fighter in Ayala. This is no charity induction. He deserves it.

I liked watching Johnny Tapia but don't really consider him to be Hall of Fame worthy.

Then again if Arturo Gatti got in that kind of lowered the bar.

What about Mancini? I think that's even lower.
