Really poor performance tonight from Saunders, but he at least got the win. Being out of the ring that long isn't a good look. Neither is not being in shape all year round otherwise you'll put in sluggish performances like he did here. He has to get his finger out and focus on his career and not pissing about and enjoying himself getting fat.
Saunders should fight a top 10 fighter before he takes on Golovkin to shake off the rust otherwise he won't even be slightly competitive.Comment

I had it even after 6, wasnt scoring it properly though, Saunders won 7-10, Akavov the last 2. Think 116-114 is fairComment

His normal trainer went awol. I'm thinking they had an argument about his lack of conditioning. His active corner were horrible - according to the commentators Frank Warren went round to them after round six to ask them how they had it. The corner told him he was winning the early rounds. Think Frank gave them a rollicking and things picked up in rnds 7-10.Comment

Hopefully he gets back to his old self next time out and he looks as sharp as he can look.Comment

I got the feeling before the fight based on things BJS has said that a Canelo fight doesn't seem likely for whatever reason. So his focus switched to GGG, which is only other 'cash-out' option.
Don't know how this plays out, but one thing is for sure, GGG wants BJS's belt more than anything else.
GGG has 2 years left. He pretty much said as much in a press conference in Astana. He's got time to unify, but not much else.
The comments from GGG's team about a fight in Astana are interesting. GGG is as big in Kazakhstan as Pac is in the Philippines. The fight would likely be at the Astana stadium (30,000 seater) or Bary's Ice Palace, and word from Kazakhstan is that he would fill either. Also, that it would be the biggest night in Astana EVER. Kazakhstan can pay 40m to cyclists to wear the badge, so money is there. And interest in an event like this would be up to presidential level.
Pretty sure that if they played it out right, we could see BJS vs GGG in Astana for GGG to unify on home turf.
Could happen......Comment
