It's not his MO to hit hard on every punch. He starts light and fast until he wears them down, then pours it on harder as the opponent slows. It's a smart and legitimate way to box. Mayweather did it. Ward does it.
There are guys who differ, like Rigo, who seems to keep the same measured pace throughout.

About one out of every 4 or 5 punches he throws is hard enough to knock a fighter his weight down if it lands on the right spot.

He uses a lot of lighter punches to set up the opponent. They are often tired or worn down when he starts throwing leather and even then, he still sets it up with angles and lighter shots. It's fun to watch him work.

Spot on. He finds weaknesses first, then starts targeting them. It does take him awhile to get comfortable though. A pressure fighter who wins most of the early rounds can beat him by surviving later on.
