If weightclasses were abolished would Tyson Fury get more attention and credit?

Weight classes would inevitably sort themselves out. Fighters would fight similar weight fighters just to not get killed - rather than seeing people pigeon-holed into the divisions that exists, you'd see more emphasis put on catchweight negotiations.

And it doesn't matter if you abolish weight classes - very few people would want to actually watch Fury fight anyway. No change there.

Exciting fighters are exciting. Those that aren't, aren't. It ain't rocket science.

What you say is true and also a horrible situation for a boxing fan like myself. I admire the fighting ability,speed, skill and punching power of excellent boxers regardless of weight My favorite fighters over the years have never been heavyweights. Ward, Kovalev Loma, Canelo and GGG get more attention and credit than heavyweights because they are better fighters. For the heavyweights to get more attention and credit they need to train harder and fight better. They aren't going to get credit and attention unless they deserve it. They don't get extra credit for being big.

It would be cool to visit a parallel universe in which the same fighers exist but boxing has no weight classes.

Obviously Fury would be p4p king undisputed because it could be proven.

It's the combination of his size, gifts, and skill that make him so remarkable. There's never been a HW who can move like him, ever.

Well it is true when he says the best heavyweight champions are likely literally the best boxers on the planet because the little lads wouldn't be able to beat them. Just solid logic known by every human being the moment they step into primary/junior school and see a 5-year-old classmate who is about the size of their Dad. Nobody bullies the big kid!

This is true
Someone like Mayweather in an open weightclass would just be another small good boxer who can beat guys his own size and slightly above, but would be no match for the much larger guys.
Thus he would lose and not be a PPV star.

Just shows how good heavyweights really are the best in the sport, but they dont get the recoqnition they deserve. Instead someone like a Mayweather who cant even beat a decent boxer over 6'1, and 170lbs (which is almost standard height/weight these days for an american) is a superstar.

Floyd Mayweather was the exception, not the rule. He's a once in a generation (if not longer) kind of marketing tool that should never be used as a blueprint for the rest of boxing. He's an extreme example - like a blue moon.

Beyond that, he was boring in later years, but the foundations had been laid by a hell of a career up to that point. People seem to forget the pre-Manny dramas. He doesn't get to that position of being so despised without a career of brilliance and a 0 on the end of it.

I think the guts of the argument is getting missed anyway. Even taking away weight classes, fighters and promoters will find their own matchups. Unless you're an absolute idiot - the fact that a 6"4 230lb guy would beat the snot out of a 5"8 147lb guy, is bloody obvious. We don't need abolishment of weight classes to figure that out. But we'd never see those matchups anyway, fighters would stick to their weight area, matchups would be made, and people would continue on as normal.

Anyway, what's Fury got to do with this? You had me intrigued until you pointed out someone who is completely irrelevant.
