Comments Thread For: Michael Buffer: I Saw Kovalev Beat Ward, Fight Lacked Action

Two weeks ago at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, very few people had a closer ringside seat than Hall of Fame ring announcer Michael Buffer. He watched closely for twelve rounds, as Andre Ward (31-0, 15KOs) got off the floor to win a unanimous decision over Sergey Kovalev (30-1, 26KOs) to capture the WBO, WBA, IBF light heavyweight titles.

Irrespective, his opinion remains the majority view.

My favourite comment on the entire fight went something like the following:

'.....Kovalev landed a bomb in round 2, NOONE gets up from that, but Ward did. Ward not only got up, he started fighting back under circumstances most would have wilted. It was inspirational, Ward showed courage and resolve sadly missing in the sport these days, boxing would be in a far better place if more showed that level of courage, determination and sheer will to win. So I gave Ward round 2 for going above and beyond under such adverse circumstance, but it was close....'

Just in case you think the writer was serious, he wasn't, just proving a point by using all the pro-Ward rhetoric to give him the second round as well, and it almost sounds plausible.

All this cry babying, remember the same shit when Pac lost to Mayweather. They need to start handing out boxes of tissue at the door and mail anyone who buys PPV for the sore losers.

pac-tards and GGGoons and Kovalav fans are all garbage. to them pac and krusher are still undefeated. when GGG loses, they will say he was robbed, if he gets ko'd then the opponent is on peds or something.

these 3 fan bases are pieces of **** and cant admit that their fighters lost.

i love starting **** in person with these fan bases, because it only takes a couple mins to prove that they are new fans and dont know anything about boxing except like i always say "ducking ducking ducking ducking"

I absolutely, whole heartedly agree! Buffer is completely spot on. There wasn't a lot of action, I was surprised the ref didn't break up the wrestling, and Kovalev definitely should have thrown his jab more often.

Thurman vs. Porter, LSC vs. Frampton, Easter Jr. vs. Comney, and Vargas vs. Salido, were all better fights than Ward vs. Kovalev, and none of them were PPV fights!

Can't we let this one go? The scoring could have gone either way. People ought to be questioning Kovalev's strategy after such a strong start rather than the judges scoring.
