Comments Thread For: Vasyl Lomachenko-Nicholas Walters: Pre-Fight Report Card

by Cliff Rold - The timing of things can be funny. Had this fight happened even six months ago, the buzz among hardcore fight fans would likely be off the charts. It's still good. It feels like it could be more. After all, this was a fight people started to get interested in during 2014. Then it looked like one of those contests that aren't meant to be...

        Walters by ko

I can't wait to see and read what all these bias writers have to say after Walters knocks this dude out cold.

I've got Loma by mid rounds KO. Walters is very hit-able as Marriaga and Sosa showed. His power is over- rated at 130 against bigger men. I'm thinking frustration will play a part after the first 4-5 rounds and he will start to take risks that leave him more open.
If this goes the way I see it I'm thinking this fight will see old Bob wet his pants - with drool.

I took this to be about his weight management since the Sosa fight. He put on a Duranesque amount of weight during his inactivity, and the article just questions what effect this might have if any.

For me - Walters looked far sharper against Donaire than he did Sosa, and not related to the opponent, more Walters' foot movement, which imo if he had kept it at the Donaire level would have seen less land from Sosa.

Its a fair question - weight fluctuation never has a positive effect on a boxers performance, and often a negative effect, and when looking at what appears to be some indication of loss of movement in the Sosa fight, fair question as to how he will get back to the Donaire level of mobility after 11 months of inactivity and a large weight swing.

The thing I feel most confident about in the fight is that if Donaire couldn't get Walters out of there, Loma can't either, so unless Walters finishes Loma early (unlikely but possible), Walters will be there in a long tiring fight, and condition will play a part.

So while Walters was going overboard on his mama's bammies, Loma was running marathons in his spare time. Will we see evidence of this going down the stretch ? Dunno - but fair question.

As an aside, I thought this article was an excellent assessment of the fight.

There is a reason Loma is a strong favourite, and its not to do with any bias from writers - the bookies don't give a monkey's what writers say.

If Walters knocks Loma out cold, writers will say the same as I will, that Walters has proven himself to be the real deal - end of.

How is this bias? It's just a pretty thorough pre fight breakdown and a pick. He is picking Loma but a lot of people have it as a toss up fight.
