There a few reasons why Ward won, and while it's I still think Kovalev controlled the fight more than Ward did, it's not the robbery I thought it was. It could be scored anywhere between 7-5 either way or 6-6, and unfortunately for Kovalev it went the only way it could go for him to lose.
I think it was Doctor Tenma who posted a different angle with no commentators, so thanks for that link. And here is where I think the fight had it's clouded moments:
- Round 3 after Kovalev scored the knockdown the previous round, Ward began to wrestle and hold and all kinds of **** and that's when the fight became muddled.
- the next few rounds is where it got messy and it could have gone either way because no one really dominated the round. I would probably scored it draws but because of the way Kovalev won the previous rounds it looked like it turned into a match that Ward excels in so the perception helped Ward, IMO, not that Kovalev clearly wonthose rounds tho.
- Round 10 is the controversial round and I believe that the crowd chanting SOG while Kovalev was tagging Ward early on changed the perception of the round. Ward picked it up but Kovalev got back into it and I thought he won that round clearly but the crowd influenced the judges IMO.
- Ward looked good in the last two but in the 12th there was a moment when he got tagged and started to hold that saved him a bit.
Anyway, my two cents. Definitely deserves a rematch cause it feels like a lot of rounds were draws.
