The pair were due to meet at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff but problems with the paperwork supplied by the Russian’s team have forced a delay.

They will now clash in Glasgow on December 3 with angry promoter Frank Warren saying: “I’m p****d off with what has happened.

“It’s annoying. They messed up because the medical documents they sent in were not complete.

“We didn’t get them until Monday and they were also all in Russian so we had to get them translated.

“The British Boxing Board of Control then said ‘no, they can’t come in’ so we have had to postpone until the following week."

It’s the second blow to the Cardiff bill following the withdrawal of British super-welterweight champion Ahmet Patterson after being attacked with a brick while out running.

But the show still goes ahead with Terry Flanagan topping the bill with the defence of his WBO lightweight title against Orlando Cruz.

Visa issues is an unacceptable excuse in my book. The promoter should get the primary blame. He should not rely on the other fighters team to get visas for his show. He should be following up with that every single day!

This is absurd. How can Akavov and his team think that submitting medical documents in Russian would be acceptable when the fight in in the? You can't really blame FW for this but then again the problem could have been solved by getting a more professional opponent...
