Comments Thread For: Arum: Lomachenko-Walters Could Be FOTY - Unlike Ward-Kovalev

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is expecting a Fight of The Year candidate on Saturday night, when Vasyl Lomachenko defends his WBO super featherweight title against Nicholas Walters (26-0-1, 21KOs) in an HBO televised main event from the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

This fight can't be anything but great. Two highly skilled fighters with no interest in grappling with each other exchanging the whole way. Think Cotto/Pac.

Only thing that scares the crap out of me is getting another hometown decision like Ward/Kovalev (we already saw it with Lomachenko v Russell where one judge scored it a draw for crissakes !). ok Jamaican, but you know what I mean - Crawford feels more like the hometown guy.

Boxing really needs to sort this judging BS out as its crippling the sport.

I've been saying it as well. Lomachenko vs. Walters will be a better fight.

He might be right though that Walters Loma might be a better action fight but a lot of **** goes into making a fight memorable. The status of the fighters is a big key. I watch two bums go to war on solo boxeo every week, we don't care because it's not important. Ward Kovalev was important for mad reasons. Battle for #1 p4p. It was a title fight. Both unbeaten. Ward moving up when GGG and Nelo both acting soft when it comes to moving up. Sergey being a monster puncher drops Ward but then Ward comes back and makes it a fight. Bob needs to just ride the wave and hope this fight gives us something good.

whether or not u think kovalev or ward deserved the decision if u cant appreciate ward kov as a great fight im not sure why u even watch boxing tbh. im tired this idea that only action packed fights with bleeders are the only great fights its honestly ridiculous and bad for the sport that people can only appreciate high action fights. sorry but ward and kov are too dam good of fighters to just be brawlers and besides i guarantee lemonchenkho will be conservative and smart in that fight anyway

This fight is nowhere near the level of Kovalev Ward.It the fight is action packed it'll be because of Walters not Lomachenko

I think Lomachenko/Walters could easily steal it.

I agree that right now Ward/Kovalev I is in the mix, but it sure isn't a lock. I disagree with Arum here about the holding, there was some holding and whatnot but not nearly enough to call this anything but a great fight, which it was.
