  • Whose "boxing stocks" went up after the fight last saturday. Ward or KOV?

Ward - showing heart, being able to recuperate after a knockdown, showing tremendous resilience thereafter to "win" a Very controversial disputed, close decision( i had Kovalev winning)

Kovalev - Being able to knockdown and hold his own against one of the slickest and best tactician today. winning in many/MOST peoples eyes even if he "loss" the officially.

They both fought well, and the fight could have gone either way. Coupled with the fact that they fought against legit opponents in their prime and risked their undefeated records, I'd say they both came out winners.

Both imo, but if you overrated Ward maybe his stock dropped.

It depends on where you rated them before the fight honestly.

No matter what Ward does the word " contraversial " will be surrounded by him. I wasnt to familiar with either fighter in terms of actually watching them ,but i view Kovalev as still undefeatted and the guy to beat . I dont see Ward as the threat he is in the ring either as many insiders who thought Kovalev won would too . I cant see Ward having bigger stock here based on a fight he was favored to win and most think was wrongly decided ,it just doesn't or shouldn't work like that just because you got up from a punch and werent hit often enough to suggest you could take a full fight if Kovalev steps up the tempo .

they stayed about the same in terms of stock and reputation, but in terms of direct gains and opportunities ward is at an all time high. He can parlay this victory into sponsorship deals, better leverage against networks etc etc/

Kovalev mentally wilted when his punches could not slow his opponent. He could not raise the tempo without losing rounds by larger margins, beaten to the punches and out thought.

                Kovalev has reached his ceiling.

I think both fighter's stock went up for obviously different reasons.

The thing is Kov trained hard for this defense and really wanted the KO. As the bigger, stronger and harder punching fighter he still couldn't take Ward out. Kov will be 34 years old when the rematch takes place. That's the down side of most fighter's careers so I'm not sure how easy it will be for him to improve his stamina, especially when he still has to cut a good amount of weight to make 175lb.

Ward on the other hand, ended the fight with the momentum and seemed to have figured out some keys to success. Never have I seen Kov get physically out worked, forced through the ropes or pushed to the ground like Ward managed to do in the late rounds.

I think Ward learned more from the fight than Kov did and now has the opportunity to improve certain technical aspects, like angles of attacks, etc. Kov can bring the power earlier in the rematch but that means he'll probably fade sooner.......

Ward's stock definetly went down IMO. Getting wobbled by jabs, getting put in the 2nd, desperetly holding and lifting opponents leg... all while fresh

Some people had him almost on Floyd's level - can you even imagine Floyd doing those things? remember mosley fight.. that's the difference. Andre is great but not all time great.

I think degale gives ward all he can handle as james is just as crafty inside ans ward depends too much on physically imposing himself on opponents chest.
