Pound for Pound is pointless but while Ward is excellent, most reasonable people seem to think he lost against Kovalev.

I think the best fighter in the world is Roman Gonzalez. I think this could change in the next year..he is young but could already be declining.

There are fighters with more skill than Ward.

OP I think you will find that p4p is actually just a discussion & not a picture.

It has no iron clad basis in fact or reality. It's a subjective concept & pure personal opinion. Ring mag list is that of a few magazine editors! I think you will find that the majority of fans do not have Ward as p4p #1 after this fight as it was not convincing & thus has lea way when discussing his merits as p4p. Ward for me has a false claim until he beats Kovalev leaving no question marks. You cannot be crowned p4p king in highly debatable circumstances IMO If Ward had won decisively then yes.

I said the winner of this fight would take the throne and I reluctantly stand by it. I see these 2 fighters as kind of co-p4p #1 until the rematch and if necessary, trilogy is complete.

Well if you're judging P4P solely off resume and without looking at the manner of victory then Ward has a strong case. However if you take P4P as meaning 'who is the best, right now, H2H assuming weight was taken out of the equation' well then it's no longer speculative and resume can pretty much be ignored, Resume is only really an informer of P4P status (to my way of seeing it) given that generally there's no other useful way of comparing guys in different weight classes, but when you've just had two top guys duking it out at the same weight, you don't need it cos you have an answer as to who's the best. And now we do have an answer... only it's inconclusive.

Right now I'd still have Chocolatito at #1 and Ward and Kovalev at #2 or #3 (depending on who you think won) if I wasn't one of those contrary bastards who think P4Ps a steaming pile of BS and when I do deign to do it base my opinion virtually entirely on the eye test.
