  • Comments Thread For: Virgil Hunter: Supposedly Stronger Kovalev Couldn't Fight Inside

LAS VEGAS Virgil Hunter realized quickly Saturday night that Sergey Kovalev didn't want to engage Andre Ward on the inside. Kovalev typically doesn't fight inside, but Andre Ward's trainer wasn't quite certain how the Russian knockout artist would react once Ward was able clinch and wrestle with him early in their 12-round light heavyweight title fight at T-Mobile Arena. Once Hunter saw how Kovalev dealt with Ward's inside game, he felt even more confident about Ward winning the fight.

"Supposedly More Skillful Ward Wouldn't Exchange in the Pocket!

Dumb comment from Hunter. Why would either guy fight where the opponent is clearly superior.

Virgil your son nearly got decapitated. You're lucky Ward was crunched with a poorly positioned wrist and hand.

Sounds like he's trying to convince himself.Ward didn't throw any power shots until the 8th,all a springing up jab and trying not to engage. He was fresher at the end but he did nothing early. The headlocks did a good job of keeping Wards head out of his face.

But the master boxer was getting outboxed from the outside. Kovalev should not have tried to outwrestle ward to conserve his energy but props to Ward doe for coming back and sucking kov in to a wrestling match,

Got tired of hearing that Ward was "almost decapitated" here. Besides that KD in the second round, Kovalev didn't do nothing, landed way less punches, got outboxed and it was a Postol-esque performance from him

Hunter has to be the creepiest MF in boxing. No doubt he touches little boys when he is not training.

Everyone knew going in that Kovalev's inside game didn't compare to Ward's.

But what I was told by experts and 'hardcore' fans in this site, was that Ward would shutout and outbox and give the big stiff Euro a boxing lesson and win wide like 9-3 on the scorecards. Oops.
