See and this is the reason Kovalev lost the fight in people eyes (not mines). The problem with being the aggressor and NOT getting in and doing ENOUGH damage is that instead of it becoming EFFECTIVE AGGRESSION (A Scoring Criteria), it now become INEFFECTIVE AGGRESSION and now you are scoring against yourself which is ****** imo, especially if the opponent aint doing no damage back and is just walking straight back away from you like ward did.

See Even paulie said all kovalev had to do was cut off the ring and not follow ward and he would catch him. Which means ward wasn't doing anything "special", not avoiding kovalev with lateral movement or setting traps or anything beside just going in reverse (this is not footwork or ring generalship) but since kovalev is the aggressor and didnt get in enough damage or win these moments big/dramtic than in these situation it looks to the eye that kovalev is failing which is far from the case. For instance if you take the same action (leather landed, blocked/slipped punches etc) in this so-called "ineffective aggression" moment and put them in the center of the ring Kovalev would win that moment with that same action (leather landed, blocked/slipped punches etc) cause he would outland, outbox and outscore ward.


The problem with pressure You either win it big and it becomes effective aggression or you shoot yourself in the foot and they will score it against you as ineffective aggression.

Seems like many kov fans felt he won round 10, can they tell me how? We have slow motion, show us the punches. Kov landed just a single right hand that entire round with barely 50 secs left.
Ward landed the cleaner shots and obviously won that round.

If you slow it down you'll see he's hitting air with practically every punch he throws, that's how most of this fight was. All I saw was ineffective aggression, while his fans were acting like he was landing at will lmao.

What Kovalev did is the exact definition of effective aggression.

At times he abandoned cutting off for following, and it's clear towards the later rounds he let off the gas, but he was effective all night. He was controlling the ring, pushing the pace when he wanted to, and was landing jabs all night. Ward would counter at times and evade punches as the fight went on, but he was never in control. He never drove Kovalev back and forced his fight, he never took ground, he would contend for it briefly but would be content with winning an exchange and not taking control from where he ends up with it. He wasn't boxing off the back foot, he was fighting to survive more often than not. He was taking serious damage but was playing it off well.
