  • Why is Kovalev getting rounds 3, 4, and 5 by default? Because of the KD?

I think too many people momentum score on here. Just because Ward got knocked down and was in a bit of trouble in the 2nd doesn't mean he can't come back and win the next round. If you take rounds 3, 4, and 5 on their own merit, they are very close and could easily be scored for Ward.

So many of you seem to be enamoured with compubox, and if thats true then you should know Ward out-landed Kovalev in 2 out of those 3 rounds.

It was just a close fight - its ok to debate the decision, but I challenge people to be more objective in their views, not just focus on the information which suits your agenda.

For the record I have watched the fight twice and scored the fight 114-113 for both guys.

Did Kovalev land the better punches overall? YES. Did he do more damage? YES. Did he outbox Ward in some rounds? YES.

But guess what he ticked all those boxes and based on scoring criteria I can still see him losing 7 rounds. I think that's the part pro Kovalev fans are struggling with. The Marquess of Queensberry Rules are what they are, and unfortunately for Kovalev he did all of the above and still possibly lost, although I wouldn't deny him a win either, like I said very close either way fight. It seems like more people have scored it for Kovalev and thats fine, I can definitely see why, but please don't call it a robbery, or say that there is no way 'I can see" Ward winning, most people who have those feelings have selective bias going on.

One could say the same thing about Ward, no?

The main argument I see for Ward is "Kovalev slowed down, he didn't land AS much, and didn't hurt Ward AS much, and he missed a little bit MORE." "So Ward won those rounds, even when he got outlanded, he won those rounds because Kovalev wasn't doing AS MUCH as he did in the round where he hurt and dominated Ward."

That's momentum scoring, or am I mistaken?

i actually thought ward won rounds 3, 4, and 5. i thought after round 2, ward landed more shots, and his were also cleaner, and affected kovalev more than kovalev's shots affected ward.

also, ward is getting absolutely NO credit for body punching...

Your probably right - it works both ways, but obviously because Kovalev lost I see a lot more people dis*****g the decision from his supporters than justifying it from Ward supporters, if that makes sense?

I agree Ward didn't sweep the second half of the fight. Kovalev got a second wind and won round 10 and round 12 was very close - could have gone either way. By the way some idiot told you in another thread that Kovalev out-landed Ward big in 12th round, but its not he case, there was one punch in it.

I try to score every round on its own merit, I've always been that way. Boxing scoring is not telling a story - you are scoring round by round, like I said I can see 114-113 either way. Good fight - lets see the rematch. But both guys proved their greatness, even if it wasn't quite what a lot of you expected.

For the record - I haven't seen anyone predict this fight more accurately then I did, I will pm you a link of my pre-fight prediction.

Most people can't score fights period. Nothing more needs to be said.

I'm starting to get that impression. People are so emotional and extreme. There is a middle ground here guys, it was a close fight. This fight reminds me a little bit of Mosley-Cotto, everyone was going ape **** here for the scoring of that fight, arguing, name calling.

I thought Cotto won - but I could see how people thought Mosley did.

This fight was extremely hard to score, probably even more difficult than that fight.

Me too. First watch I gave Kovalev the 3rd, but second watch I changed to Ward. That was the difference between 114-113 Kovalev the first watch, to then the same score for Ward.

Ward won round 3 or 4, can't remember which won but you can't give him any other round (on the basis you have claimed) inside the first 6 and then still refuse to give Kovalev any rounds in the last 6.
