Seeing as we've already had a narrative set where the slick bruvva wins close non-eventful rounds by default and the non-american must completely dominate to win, how many rounds must Kov score a KD to win?

Imo he'll have to knock Ward down or hurt him to win rounds, if he doesn't he loses by default because Ward gets "slick bruvva points".

If Kovalev doesn't hurt or KD Ward he loses the round!
