Ward battled but I thought it should have been a clear Kovalev victory.I haven't seen the fight yet so I'll assume that Ward was on his game. I always said right from the beginning that if Kovalev didn't knock Ward out, Ward would win on points. Vegas venue wouldn't see it any other way IMO. For those who did see it was it a decisive win or could it have gone either way?
I think judges and fans/media are way too cute when scoring fights. Kovalev clearly won several rounds. Ward didn't clearly win many rounds at all. Kovalev had just as much "ring generalship" as Ward. If you were watching these guys for the first time you wouldn't automatically assume that Ward is the better boxer..because he wasn't.
Ward did some nice work to the body, but his shots had no effect on Kovalev. But every time Kovalev even landed a jab, it did some damage to Ward. That should matter when scoring a fight (unless a guy like Ward is scoring non-stop...but he wasn't).
I laughed at a thread a week or so ago about the all US judges having a possible affect on this fight...but it could be true. Ward got the benifet of the doubt on every close round...from what? Reputation? The crowd noise? Or something else? I don't know.Comment

If you did the math, you would gave realised that isn't the case. 1 knockdown doesn't change the minimum number of rounds needed to win assuming there aren't any point deductions. 7 rounds would be 114 over 113 as opposed to 115 over 113.Comment

It's just a bad look. And no top class fighter is going to wanna work with ROC nation. What fighter is going to be eager to get on one of their cards after the circus last night?Comment
