Even if it was scored 6-6 Kovalev wins off the kd. I can't give Ward 7 rounds in that fight. And many other people didn't. But each judge had the same score? Yep nothing strange!
Well if the scores were all over the place then you guys would be saying that they couldn't agree one which rds to fix! Consensus is usually a good thing. It means that from the same vantage point each judge saw something similar. I saw it as rd3 and rd 5-12 for Ward (maybe not rd 10 as it was pretty 50/50) that means either 114-113 or 115-112 just in line with the judges. It was a close fight, but in each rd after 4 Ward did enough to be a step or a step and a half past Kovalev.

Looking forward to the rematch because I believe that Ward actually wins a lot more clearly as he seemed to figure out Kovalev and was a lot more methodical in coming in than he was in the opening rds. Plus Kovalev has a fuel problem that at 33 is too late to fix.

It's important to recognise why that happens too. There's a huge problem with narrative bias when a guy like Ward fights. If the round is low action, he seems to win by default, without actually having to score himself. He gets credit for defence. But Kovalev gets no credit. When Kovalev blocks and slips shots, making Ward miss, it doesn't matter. Kovalev's defence is not part of the narrative. Only his offence. Whereas Ward gets credit for both. So Kovalev can only win rounds by landing heavy flush shots. Whereas Ward can win the round with a couple of spear jabs.

I'm sick of seeing it. Both guys should have to score at the same level to win. In boxing at the moment it's like a soccer team playing ultra defensive against an attacking team, and being awarded the win without actually having to score themselves.
Exactly, all some guys have to do to win rounds is not get knocked down. Matthysse Garcia is a perfect example. This fight was pretty much the same way. One guy dominated for the first six rounds, but people score for the other guy because he didn't go down.

          • Copying this here cause I said I would re-watch the fight.

Just re-watched the fight and scored it without Max A$$ and the rest of the HBO Crew (minus Roy Jones JR ) running their yaps. Had to watch rounds 7 and 11 twice because they were just too close to call and camera angles were really bad during Andre's mugging stunts.

My final scores are 116-112 for Kovalev. Had him winning rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, and 11. Definitely a home cooked decision! Good job judges for embarrassing the USA. Now we fit in with the UK and Germany for protecting our fighters. Guess we can't really cry when they rob our fighters over seas!

            • They forgot that Ward loves to target the body. His ability to adjust is why he won.

              • Glad we didn't have you as a judge, the decision was correct, stop whining.

Good thing you aren't a judge, your post reeks of spectator whining.

                  • I finally got to watch it. I had it 7-5 for Kovalev I could see it 6-6 but no more than that. It was a good fight, both of these guys showed what a champion is all about. I hope the rematch is soon.
