    TOTOWA, N.J. Sergey Kovalev is a white Russian immigrant who arrived in the United States in 2009 as an ambitious yet anonymous boxer. Andre Ward is a black American from Hayward, California, who began his professional career late in 2004 amid a lot of fanfare after winning a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

      yes boxing has historically been a sport for people from a very poor background and the streets.

        Ward is half white. Are we going to just pretend that his deceased father didn't exist? Hello, his last name "Ward" is of Irish decent. For the life of me I don't get why bi-racial people aren't characterized as such and people just go with the non white half when writing or speaking about them. In the HBO documentary on the fight, Ward talks about growing up bi-racial and a picture of his dad is shown.
