Originally posted by ИATASKovalev is considered a big LHW since he can barely make weight. He's openly admitted making 175 is very difficult and recently, about 2-3 fights ago, he had to change his diet and routine in order to make weight more efficiently. He's a big guy and has talked about fighting at cruiserweight sooner rather than later.
I've seen him mention that he's not gonna drop below 175 (When fight w Golovkin was discussed), but I've never seen him say it's difficult to make weight.
He was 181 on the morning against Chilemba, and ~185-188 come fight night in the years prior. A 15 lb rehydration weight for a LHW is pretty much average.

Originally posted by ИATASI never thought he looked scrawny. He looked big compared to Hopkins and Pascal in the ring, granted neither of them are big but again, that helps create a perceptions at the very least that he's a big fighter. Ward has really filled out too, there was one fight at 175 where he looked a bit undersized/flabby, but today and his previous fight you can see how well his muscles have filled out his body, dude is ripped and in phenomenal shape. Kovalev has to shed pounds to make weight (as mentioned above he struggles to make 175) so he's never got look ripped while having to cut 20+ pounds each training camp.
