So many of the comments and predictions from last year and the beginning of 2016 were that Kovalev would be bigger. I remember because I was pointing out that they were the same height and nearly same reach but everyone insisted Kovalev was far more muscular, couldn't be bullied.

Wtf? What do some people look at? Kovalev actually does look "scrawny" (for lack of a better word) at 175.

He's always looked like this at every one of his weigh ins. I doubt there was that too many people who said he is more muscular than Ward

He's a big guy and has talked about fighting at cruiserweight sooner rather than later.
I don't think I've ever read that. I believe he changed his diet and routine in order to come into the fight lighter (which he did), supposedly in prep for fight with Ward.

I've seen him mention that he's not gonna drop below 175 (When fight w Golovkin was discussed), but I've never seen him say it's difficult to make weight.

He was 181 on the morning against Chilemba
, and ~185-188 come fight night in the years prior. A 15 lb rehydration weight for a LHW is pretty much average.

He looked big compared to Hopkins and Pascal in the ring, granted neither of them are big but again, that helps create a perceptions at the very least that he's a big fighter. Ward has really filled out too, there was one fight at 175 where he looked a bit undersized/flabby, but today and his previous fight you can see how well his muscles have filled out his body, dude is ripped and in phenomenal shape. Kovalev has to shed pounds to make weight (as mentioned above he struggles to make 175) so he's never got look ripped while having to cut 20+ pounds each training camp.
Like I said, I used scrawny for lack of better word. But he definitely does not look muscular. His arms look thin to me. It seems weird to me that he struggles to make 175. Idk.
