Virgil is like the Yoda of boxing trainers, you can hardly fault the answers he gives. I could listen to him talk about this fight all day. The guy is very insightful.

I'm watching the 2nd vid right now and his psychological break-down of the potential tensions in the Kovalev camp was *chilling*. I've been really wondering about the relationship between Kov and JDJ and the way John has been almost distancing himself from responsibility ("Kovalev is very independent", "He didn't listen in the Chilemba fight", "I just give him recommendations"). Also, the way JDJ is just gushing with respect for Virgil here. I have fully believed from the start that Ward and Virgil are planning to confuse and frustrate Kovalev (it's kinda Ward's M.O.). Wondering if Kov will be able to adapt, or follow corner advice when things get deep. Seems Virg is expecting on that to be an issue and I think Virgil showed his hand there.

I've always wondered if Kovalev could actually adapt in a fight when things aren't going his way. He wasn't able to in the Chilemba fight, he was just able to finally get a clean right hand in but the plan of attack didn't seem to change. Honestly from the interviews I have seen from JDJ, adaptation doesn't seem to be part of the plan. They seem confident that a few clean right hands will be enough to win the fight by KO or basically hurting Ward enough to make him unravel and fight out of his comfort zone thereby sealing his fate.

Just 2 more days, I'm actually not as scared for Ward as I thought I would be (still a bit worried though).... each interview that I see from himself or Virgil gives me increasing confidence that they know exactly what they are up against on fight night.

I think the exposure to a guy like B-Hop is massively overlooked.

Kovalev will cut the ring off quickly and force Ward to dig deep.

I wouldn't say it's overlooked but he didn't adapt in that fight, he got the perfect start and never had to change anything.... the same way Maidana got the perfect start against Broner.

I think that's their plan in this fight too, put pressure on Ward early and land something big so it doesn't become a boxing match where he needs to adapt or switch things up.

The thing that baffles me is how Kovalev was so successful with certain techniques against Hopkins (the step back and counter, the chopping counter to the body jab, etc) and seemed to have just lost them in the Chilemba fight, in situations where he needed them. The fact that he couldn't adapt to Chilemba or implement tools he previously had, he just got more aggressive until he broke Isaac. Makes me really wonder how hell handle a guy like Ward whose fight plan flows and changes like seasons throughout the rounds.

I don't think big punches are Kovalev's key to this fight. I think it's starting with volume and speed until he breaks him down. This isn't a Pascal who stands in front of you and waits for his turn. Virgil seems to think Kovalev's right is predictable. If Ward can read it, Kovalev will definitely need to forget about landing bombs and keep it light and quick.

                  Come on Vato..

Hopkins is 50 and Kovalev will not have a running target in front of him.
