Chances that Ward/Kovalev turns into a foul fest?

Anyone who's shown even the slightest inkling of interest in Ward's career knows that he can push the envelope on the Marquess of Queensbury rules. Conversely, if you've followed Kovalev's career you'd notice that even for someone who competes in combat sports his level of savagery often stands out. So I was wondering the likelihood of a foul fest erupting and would the referee be willing to actually disqualify anyone in a fight of this magnitude.

It may indeed lack action, but I think the skill level alone will keep the attention of Hardcores and there is always the threat of a knockout with Kovalev.

Ward has not been a dirty fighter since the Bika fight. Since Bika is a terribly dirty fighter, too, it was understandable. His only blatantly awful cheating came against Kessler, which was is first freaking championship fight 7 years ago.

Unless Kovalev fights him dirty, the worst we'll see is some clinching.

there is gonna defo be some rough stuff when the fight gets into the trenches...

it wont be a dirty fight though...i dont believe either guy is deliberately dirty...

hitting low, rabbit shots, throwing bows, intentional use of the head...thats dirty to me...grappling a bit inside to gain favorable position isnt dirty imo...robert byrd is a decent ref and as long as hes there to make sure nothing is egregious than the fight will turn out just fine

Kovalev is likely too strong to allow that to happen.

believe me this fight will be controversial with or without any dirty tactics from both fighters.

I don't think that particular referee will allow the fight to turn into a foul fest. That guy means business and I think the boxers will realize that. He will take away points if they don't. I don't think either of them is all that dirty of fighter anyway.

Im intrigued by this matchup but i know that their styles wont mesh well.

I expect the fight to be uneventful but im still watching.

Ward stinks out the joint all the time and i expect no different here.

I just hope Kovalev gets ruthless on his ass when he tries to clinch like a hoe

They are both men who will not let someone get the better of them and will NOT be bullied. So, it's almost a given that you'll see some mean mugs after each bell, rough tactics traded, and overall aggression. But, Byrd is a very watchful referee who physically jumps in and breaks up situations that are fouling or leading toward fouls.
