I see a lot of hype for this fight but don't expect fireworks as anyone shouldn't regarding an Andre Ward fight.

I won't attempt to break it down but is anyone expecting a Calzaghe vs Kessler type shut out ? A fight thoroughly competitive by round to round action yet each round stacking up collectively all in favour of Ward.

I see Krusher is an able boxer no expert pugilist just like Kessler really, a huge puncher with very good boxing nous but ultimately not elite when it comes to boxing skill aside from their huge one punch fight ending power.

if Ward is able to take Kovalev's shots, this should be a boring UD

if he can't, then we're all gonna be entertained like a mother****er

Joe Calzaghe was a boxing wizard with big Welsh balls. Andre Ward is going to hug and spoil his way to victory. Also Mikkel Kessler was a more skilled boxer than Sergey Kovalev.

You don't need to tell me Kessler is a superior boxer, I could not agree more.

Only I have no resentments that cloud my judgement regarding this fight, so Andre Ward hasn't big American balls for taking on Mikkel Kessler ?

no cause both calzaghe and kessler came to fight, throw punches and have exchanges. good, clean action, no fouls, no clinches.

So if Ward has the durability to win he's going to win ? Everyone on the forum knows he can take a punch, only the ones who do not like him deny or refuse to accept it.

What about Chilemba he managed to take Krusher's shots and that fight was not overly exciting, if Krusher had raised his game or had the ability to find another gear he may have won, of course he may not have that other gear !

Do you believe Ward will take any credit if he beats Kovalev ? And more importantly do you think you'll be able to accept it ?

I don't see it being that easy, but the more I ponder it, the more I find myself seeing Kovalev in a Kessler role. I do think Kovalev will be more aloof, prepared, and effective. He'll also have far better counter-punching than Kessler did. But, I can see him being turned into a frustrated fighter who is just a half step behind and never at range, like most high-profile Ward opponents find themselves. Joe and Andre are two of my favorite fighters and few people realize how similar they are in terms of strategy, psychology, and ring control.

A lot of people find that impossible to imagine Kovalev not being dominant, because they haven't seen it yet with their eyes. But, before the Chilemba fight, I told people that Kovalev can be out-maneuvered, frustrated, and that his inside game isn't there. We just saw shades of that in the Chilemba fight. Yes, Kovalev clearly won, but the things that bother him are things Ward does well.

Expect Kovalev to be given no space to work and when he is allowed to be in-range, it will be a trap. Don't be fooled by the idea that he's going to throw 400 big punches and that it's only going to require 1 to kill Ward. Andre will do his best to take that away. First, by stinging him. Giving him a negative consequence for missed punches will greatly reduce his output and willingness to put everything into his shots. Expect to see harder shots than usual from Ward, a-la the Dawson and Kessler fights.

I respect Kovalev's ability enough to know that he could end it with a solid combo. That he's not just going to fall for every trick Ward throws his way. And, that he's clever enough to set his own traps. If I had to pick the most likely scenario though, it will be the above, with Kovalev just never finding the opportunity to work his game at his range, and finding himself worse off when he tries to force it.
