by David P. Greisman - Luis Ortiz could have fought in front of a lively crowd of more than 50,000 people in Texas this September. Instead, he waited another two months to return to the ring, performing on a November night in Monte Carlo as perhaps 1,000 high rollers, if even that many, struggled to pay attention to something that could only charitably be described as action.

Great article. A lot of people seem to want to use that fight to justify their dislike of Ortiz. You simply can't land combos on a reasonably talented Philly fighter whose only goal is to not get hit. It would have been even worse had Ortiz not pursued him (which some counter-punchers simply won't do).
Terrible fight but it didn't "expose" anything bad in Ortiz. The detractors will have to try a little harder.

Only other thing Malik Scott needed was a Jamaican track suit !! To me, this so-called fight shows the fear and intimidation that Ortiz puts in his opponents. Nobody's in a hurry to get punched by King Kong !

To be honest, a little bit surprised Malik Scott got the call up. We've already seen what he's all about. Looked decent against Chisora until he'd had enough and took a fall, trying to disguise the lack of bottle by saying he got the count wrong. Against Wilder, he almost threw himself to the floor after 2. I hope he got well paid for that because no self respecting promoter is going to want him back on their bill.

Luis Ortiz isn't going to forget a lifetime of Cuban training and brawl wildly to get Scott out of there. And let's be honest, he doesn't have the footspeed to do it. Scott would have done the same thing to old George Foreman, it doesn't lower my opinion of Ortiz.

He should have paid that clown Scott to take a dive, like Wilder did

The sooner we forget this fight the better.

Actually, in this fight I didn't find anything wrong about Ortiz.
