Comments Thread For: Tony Thompson: I Don't See The 'Special' in Luis Ortiz

Heavyweight veteran Tony Thompson does not see anything special about feared puncher Luis Ortiz (26-0, 22KOs) of Cuba. On Saturday night in Monte Carlo, Ortiz won a twelve round unanimous decision over Malik Scott. The fight was dreadful to watch and fans were lulled to sleep as Scott showed very little offense and ran for nearly the entire fight. Ortiz didn't exactly press the action, but scored three knockdowns.

This ***** first said that Scott would beat Ortiz and now he's trying to get paid again by fighting Ortiz... again. We know the result will be the same. Unless, of course, he pulls a Malik Scott as well.

Haha Gotta say this about Tony, he always seems to find a way into the conversation. He got himself a fight with Ortiz by opening his mouth. Maybe he's trying to get paid again. Can't hate on that. Anyway, Thompson's remarks aren't off target.

? He said that power isn't relevant because they're "all heavyweights". Nonsense. They can all generate KO power but that doesn't mean that power doesn't vary dramatically between them.

He wants to cry about being disadvantaged in that fight. If he actually tried fighting Ortiz, Thompson would have been out in 3 rounds. Fker showed up for a check. I'm not giving him respect for that.

I don't disagree with thompson, there isn't anything remarkable about Ortiz he's just a solid all rounder with a decent punch. Thompson is like 50 and wasn't that good in his prime and Jennings and scott are just plain old average.

If we had a 28 year old ortiz with footspeed and a bit of vigour about him maybe he's be something but he's (at least) 37 and fights like he's 47. Anyone with some speed and ability to land hard counters isn't going to be too worried about old king kong

I agree with Thompson on this, Ortiz isn't as great as everyone tries to say he is, and I would love to see Thompson of 08 against Ortiz

Of course he's trying to get paid again. That much is obvious. And tbh I didnt even read the article so Idk what his remarks were. Lol

EDIT: Didn't read the WHOLE article I should say.

Tony had dementia from that beatdown Luis put on him.
Lol. If he got in shape it would be worse for him because he' d actually come to fight and put to sleep aggressively. Lol.

Scott should never box again, holy **** that fight actually put me to a slumber!

Even Lara and Rigo throw more punches than him!

This fight did show us some things tho!

Ortiz is almost too patient, a bit slow, barely throws combos, must set his feet everytime, and his engine should be questioned!

Imagine a guy with speed, good power, range, and knows how pick up the pace in a fight, Granpa Kong would be in trouble!

Sad to see we'll never get to see a Physical Prime Luis Ortiz
