No. It was not kept secret. Why would it be? He didn't kill the guy on purpose or keep punching after the ref said to stop. Sugar Ray Robinson killed a man in the ring also as did Ray Mancini and many other famous boxers. Boxing is a dangerous sport and deaths happen. The boxers are not to blame. Hurting their opponent until the ref says to stop is their job.
