I remember that fight, it was historical, when Leo Santa Cruz's clone fought Santa Cruz to earn the right to use the legendary Santa Cruz surname. He came up short though

I scored it for donaire, but it was really close and got no problem with magdaleno getting the decision.. I did think some of the judges scorecards were to wide..

Gonna see if I have time to watch this fight again soon and score it again. Watching it, I thought it was a real close fight. Dan Rafael said many people ringside had the fight even.

Either way, close enough fight for a rematch. But not sure if that happens.

Donaire is right this was just a case of judges and boxing politics determine what would happen.

Magdaleno fought scared most of the fight he ate bigger shots, he was running and clinching when the fists were being thrown and just overall he was being clearly being edged in rounds it was a close fight but it was obvious that Donaire won 2-3 pts type of margin.

You don't fight as negative as Magdaleno fought and win a world title from the champion his performance showed to everyone that he isn't really worthy of being a world champion it's good to see Donaire still has enough in his tank to make pretenders with a fake 0 look like exactly what they truly are... Protected bums, nothing special...
Donaire and boxing lost last night we need to give fair decisions and stop holding the hand of fighters who have an 0 I no longer rate these type of fighters they're just protected and have most of the time took an easy path avoiding good opponents.

You know for certain in boxing the sport always tries to promote the next up and comer this was simple case of that happening in with the new out with the old no matter the fact that Donaire done the better work, you gotta try and get a cash cow from somewhere and sadly being unbeaten seems to be an important thing in boxing.

Magdaleno and his trainers only have themselves to blame If they fought with an intention of fighting competitive fighters throughout their career this Donaire fight would have went better for them instead they had to rely on a good ole robbery or maybe he's just not good enough to beat a washed up Donaire.

You're right. Donaire was the champ and the aggressor. Not saying the 'come forward' fighter should win... just saying this wasn't a clear victory for the challenger. Just really close. And scores were suspect on the whole.

Critical fight for donaire. IMO he deserves a rematch. But yea Top Rank might be happy just to roll with their new young up and comer.

Those scorecards are interesting really. Arum complaining about one of them even more so. If we applied majority scoring to those cards then Magdaleno wins 9-3 (117-111), instead we get scores of 10-2 and 8-4, one round either side of the majority score. Therefore you can say each judge turned in a score that only differed from the average (in their opinion) by one round - which is just about as tight a set of cards as you could hope to get in a somewhat competitive fight.

                    You are crazy.

You called "fight scared" but really is fight with intelligence and skills.

Magdaleno did better for 9 rounds and Nonito ended better but this is boxing and the scores are for the complete fight.

Donaire caught him only in the finals rounds and Jessie landed great left hands on him, look the right zone of the head of Donaire.

Magdaleno is a great boxer and doesn't have reason what you said because Magdaleno is not known in Mexico or California, Donaire is the famous fighter and Arum was cooking Donaire vs Valdez.

Rematch and Jessie will win better with more experience in his game.

Phonito and his fans are sore losers who need to grow some balls and accept the lose and move on instead of making up excuses .
