Sitting with my casual friend talking about boxing

This guy had the May-Pac fight party at his house. This morning he was saying Mayweather cherry picked all his fights & he never fought anybody in their prime (yes, this guy is black ) So I named a couple of fighters and he answered if he's heard of them or not.

    Broner: Yes
    Bradley: Yes
    Canelo: Yes
    Golovkin: No
    Ward: Yes
Kovalev: Heard a little about him. Knows he's fighting Ward next
    Stevenson: No
    Joshua: No
Wilder: No (this one surprised me)
    Thurman: Yes
    Porter: Yes
    Spence: No
    Garcia: Yrs
    Crawford: Maybe, name sounds familiar
    Charlo Twins: No
Durrell Twins: Yes ( We're from Michigan)
    Fury: No
    Klitschko: Yes
    Vargas: No
    Brook: No

I'm black and I already knew this. Pacquiao has more black fans than Floyd had Filipino fans

I never thought you were Black, I thought you were mexican or something. Your profile is a deception.

Most interesting for me is that USA HW champ have so little fans in US ,they dont even care about him lol. Also we know that WWs are most popular.

Thats weird he seems to know many HBO guys, but not GGG. I guess that fact that GGG hasn't had that big fight probably plays largely into it as he's just beginning to know of Kovalev who's just having his first big fight in a couple weeks.

I don't think its saying much about Wilder (or Joshua) that US casuals don't know him. I think its the decade & change the Klitschko's ran the HW division to lil to no interest to American fans. American fans have forgotten about the HW's since Lennox Lewis. That lack of interest doesn't change overnight.

Wilder vs Joshua vs Fury (post-rehab or whatever he's got going on right now) are fights that could alter that narrative, but I don't think Wilder & Joshua vs the also rans of the division get that job done. Joshua will probably become a bigger name in the US quicker than Wilder if he can get that Klitschko fight soon.

List doesn't surprise me. He's a guy who watches fights that get heavily promoted. Look at the names.

                Broner: All over free TV/PBC
Bradley: Faced Manny multiple times, duh
Canelo: Faced TBE, faced Mosley, etc
Golovkin: Hasn't fought anyone worth watching besides Brook, and he hasn't heard of Brook either
                Ward: Super Six
                Kovalev: Because he's fighting Ward.
Stevenson: Because he never knew Kovalev before Ward
Joshua: Because he hasn't fought anyone and he doesn't fight on PBC
Wilder: The only big names he fought were Stiverne, who nobody knows, and Harrison, who was over the hill. He fights on PBC wasn't heavily advertised besides those two names
                Thurman: Because of Porter/PBC
                Porter: Because of Thurman/Broner/PBC
Spence: He wasn't heavily promoted, even for the Algieri fight
Garcia: This is the only one that surprises me. I assume this is because of the Khan fight
Crawford: He probably vaguely recollects the Gamboa fight
Charlo Twins: Know them, know little about them, so it doesn't surprise me
Fury: I'd heard the name but didn't know who it was until he faced Grabomir, legit
Klitschko: All that clinching, no wonder
Brook: Surprises me since he beat Porter

Sounds to me like he got into it a bit after PBC went live.
