Canelo doesn't damn sure deserve 80%.
Get real.
He's just done 250-300,000 buys against Smith. And those figures are similar to what he did against Angulo, Trout, Lara and Kirkland etc. Yes, he's a bigger name than GG, and yes, he deserves more. But he is not a big PPV attraction, unless he's in fights with huge names.
A GG fight gives him his biggest payday. Again, fights against Manny and a rematch with Floyd are unrealistic, and a Cotto rematch would probably bomb.
GG is considered the "Man" at the weight, his popularity is increasing all of the time, and he has 3 of the 4 belts.
If Canelo draws 300,000 buys against the likes of Smith, but a GG fight would do well over 1 million, how on earth does he deserve an 80% split?
Both guys need each other.

He's moving up to the MW division. GG is the 'Man' of that division and he has 3 of the 4 belts.
Canelo's last PPV bombed. Because fans thought he was going to fight GG, but he ended up fighting Liam Smith instead.
Who else is he going to fight at MW? The only guy he can fight who'd be relevant would be BJS.
Again, once the last 2 belt holders have been taken out of the equation, there's no one left to fight.
Unless Canelo fights GG or BJS, his reputation and his PPV numbers will continue to suffer, and he'll only be making around $5m, which would be peanuts compared to what a GG fight could earn him.
Both guys need each other.

Where is this huge PPV star who supposedly deserves 75-80% of the purse against GG?

K2 should put it on PPV & prove why GGG deserves more. They won't even attempt a PPV without Canelo but you're telling me Canelo doesn't deserve 80% of the revenue?!?!?!?

maybe ggg feels he can afford it, but many things could happen in a year, not only ggg gets older, but canelo continues to grow phiscally and mentally...
remember when canelo showed his middle finger to cotto and moved on to fight kirkland instead, if he did it to a much bigger name he wont hesitate to do it to ggg who canelo considers hasnt done enough to call any shots...

GTFOH.
Don't be an idiot.
GG has a had a slow start because he's from Khazakstan. His circumstances are very different. But he's now gaining popularity with each fight. He's just done 500,000 with Brook. Canelo has just bombed on a Mexican holiday. He's not the superstar that you think he is. He's not Oscar, Manny or Floyd. Give him a huge opponent and he does great, give him Lara, Trout, Smith and Kirkland etc, and he has a $3.5m guarantee and sells 250-300,000 PPV's. He doesn't deserve anything like 80%. For what?? For having had opportunities GG hasn't, and because he's more popular? GG's undefeated, he's got 3 of the 4 MW belts, and he will play a huge part in making this a huge fight that would generate millions in PPV revenue. How hard is that to understand? If he's doing 250-300 buys, but fighting GG would generate well over 1m, then GG has to be rewarded for that. It takes 2 guys to make a huge fight. A GG fight gives Canelo his biggest payday. If he fights guys like Lemieux who GG has already beaten, his numbers and his purse aren't going to be much different than in his last fight.

If he gives GG the middle finger, his reputation will take another huge hit. Once he's officially moved up to MW, he's in GG's pond, and again, GG is the 'Man' with most of the belts.
Who's Canelo going to fight? Again, Brook says he's fighting Spence, and Floyd and Manny are unrealistic. His only option is if he can fight BJS before GG can. After that there'd be nobody. There'd only be GG left who was relevant. I don't think people would care to see him fight Cotto again. Giving GG the finger buys him time, but people are losing patience with him.Last edited by robertzimmerman; 11-13-2016, 09:05 PM.
