Comments Thread For: Joshua-Klitschko Approved To Collide For WBA 'Super' Title

In a very odd set of rulings, Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko have been cleared to fight for the vacant WBA 'super' heavyweight title. WBA president Gilberto Mendoza confirmed to BBC Sport the fight - targeted for March or April - would be for the belt vacated by Tyson Fury in October.

...... So Briggs-Browne is for regular WBA? I thought they were trying to get rid of all of this nonsense. Screw WBA man.

One important nugget was not mentioned here about Luis Ortiz:
""As part of its ruling, the WBA also stripped Luis "King Kong" Ortiz of the interim belt for his failure to face mandatory challenger Alexander Ustinov after Ustinov's team won a recent purse bid.

"Failure to comply with the purse bid obligations or other WBA rules will result in a loss of [title] recognition," the WBA champions committee wrote in its ruling, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN. "Ortiz has therefore relinquished the interim title."

That's some of the best news all week. Now they can focus on making the fight and they'll have a good amount of time to promote it.

Yes Briggs/Browne for regular belt then face Oquendo to establish the mando for the Joshua/klits winner, still had the mini tournament going on but King Kong dropped out

We've said Ortiz was no longer the interim champion for weeks.

                    What happens with Ustinov though?
