this what is all wrong with boxing imo. As it stands now, many boxing matches are unfairly influenced by the weight factor. It's not just a measure of skill it's also a measure of who can cut most weight and the reason for that is the current day before weigh-ins with, in most cases, unlimited ability to blow back up in weight the following day. So what we see is fighters fighting in a weight division that is below their natural weight. Some fighters seem to have a more natural ability to shed weight. Charlo looks to be such a fighter. Brook and Canelo are others. It seems as if Charlo should be fighting at MW anyway and Canelo at least at MW and Brook at least at LMW.
You can argue that the natural ability to lose weight is as much a natural phenomena as having an extremely long reach or extreme height. And I'd go along with that if as all orgs put in place a maximum next day weight so that you don't see Canelo at 175-180lbs fighting a 160-165lb Liam Smith. If weight classes exist for a reason how can it be right that in the ring the 2 fighters are fighting at different weight classes?Comment
