Comments Thread For: DiBella Forced To Withdraw Remaining 2016 NY Fight Dates

New York, NY (10/28/16) - DiBella Entertainment ("DBE"), the most active boxing promoter in New York and one of the foremost in the United States, announced Friday that it has released its dates on hold with the New York State Athletic Commission through the end of the year, effectively ending the boxing program in New York until at least 2017. The announcement is a direct result of New York's new insurance requirements, which have made it impossible for promoters to purchase the coverage necessary to do an event in the state and the New York State Athletic Commission's failure to use its authority to alter the requirements.

This is ridiculous. NY legislators should not be able to impede commerce like this. If they aren't bright enough to put together legislation that protects boxers AND isn't cost prohibitive to promoters, they need to make the new law null and void, and keep their nose outta boxing FNO.

Looks like Rigo's revenge when DiBella mockingly snored when asked about the Frampton vs Rigo after post Cruz conference

while it's obvious that new york is in way over its head and being unreasonable, you can't just let promotors have free reign. you can die in there. a guy named magomed abdusalamov, who used to be a contender at HW, now looks like this:

he was woefully uninsured considering the gigantic medical expenses and the loss of all the wages he can no longer earn as a boxer. his medical bills will be in the millions by the time he dies.

Nah man, lives should come first - it's a tricksy one cos obviously promoters will just take their fights to somewhere with less strict regulations, but that's not a reason not to take a stand. Changes have to start somewhere. The US just needs a free Health Service is all, stead of spending all that money on the military...

and from whgat iu can tell he's actually put on some weight in that picture. went from 230 to 155 according to the Ny post. awfully sad.

i needed to have my memory jogged on what exactly went down with him. it's amazing what you can forget in boxing.

he was basically told to take a cab to the emergency room. regardless of the head trauma, dude had a broken hand, nose, and cheek, and earned a f#cking ambulance ride. he puked on the sidewalk and was basically passing out by the time he got to the hospital. found a blood clot in his brain. they put him into a coma to reduce swelling. then he had a stroke. then they took him out of the coma. then he went back in. then he eventually came to again artificially and has made progress to get to the point he's at today.

from what i gather he understands what is being said to him, recognizes important people in his life, and can speak a bit and write a bit on an ipad.

                sorry about the quality

this is why you need a competent comission. not saying that NYSAC is right about the insurance bond they're mandating for promotors.

Man I remember the Perez fight, Abdusalemov got screwed by the medical people at the event and then he was in the coma. Such a sad story and horrible for boxing in general that something like that could happen.

Agreed we need proper natl healthcare, maybe single payer or similar. But like I said, there should be a way to do this to protect boxers and not stick it to promoters so heavily. No boxing in NY state? Because of some azzhat legislators who can't figure out how to write a bill that works for all parties? That's ridiculous IMO.
