I believe him. Ward is a supremely talented fighter, Im sure he is still as capable as he ever was. I still think Kovalev wins a UD with Ward going down once or twice. I think Kovalev has the goods to handle Ward but its close enough to me that Ward could win also. Im just going with my gut on this one. This is one of those fights as a fight fan you really look forward to because after all the talk we wont know how this goes until we are watching it.

It also will be one of the few i actually buy.

If Ward comes out to Take You Back, conjuring up emotions from when he took gold at the Olympics and won the Super 6, there will be no stopping him. That's really the most overlooked of all the Rocky themes and a clear key to victory here.

When guys fight in front of Smoger, they break on their own and work through clinches because they know he's not going to pamper them.

Ward needs to stay away from Kovalev without actually being away, be as slippery as possible, but don't give him room. Can't give him room to extend himself and throw hard power punches

Ward needs to slide and pivot away from the big right hand of Kovalev. Then counter with a left hook upstairs and to the body to slow down the big guy. Don't get caught up in the fans trying to coerce into a brawl. Never play your opponent's game plan and he should win a gritty tough decision.

Going out on a limb here... Kov drops Ward with an uppercut. Not guaranteeing Kovalev wins, but Ward has prime uppercut real estate sitting there on his chin in every fight... just waiting to be landed on. Brand nearly landed a few times, Boone did land some to drop him, and I'm sure JDJ knows about it.

Kovalev rather drops him with a punch on the ear or on the top of the head (due to Ward's habit to stay low when engaging a clinch)...
