Just another example of the difference in being an amateur and professional.
Gavin is just another fighter who couldnt handle the transition from being a sponsored athlete who 'works' for team GB, to turning professional and being in charge.
When your money and status as a sponsored athlete relies on following your coaches and producing results, it is easy to stay motivated.
When you turn professional and are in charge of your own training fight prep etc, it is a different story. The trainers, S&C coaches and nutritionists work for the fighter, if he doesn't want to train they can't make him.
I've experienced this myself as an S&C coach. I've only ever worked with a few fighters, mostly prospects but the one high (ish) profile fighter I worked with didn't like being told what to do in the gym. It got to the point where I would train with him to show him I wasn't asking anything drastic but he just didn't like being pushed.
