2016- the year of the duck. With a few exceptions most of the fights havent happened and its been a bad year for the sport. Ducking is one of the worst things a boxer can do, although strangely its often praised on this site, with the fighter being ducked the fighter who gets the blame. So who do people think is ducker of the year 2016.
The obvious favourite is canelo, with his 'mexicans dont **** about' testosterone fuelled speech before deciding to vacate and fight at a lower weight. He has also conveniently decided that 154 is not for him now demetrius andrade has been made his mandatory. Ducking fighters in two divisions takes some beating but there are a number of other contenders.
Adonis stevenson and danny garcia have followed up strong ducking performances in 2015 by avoiding any threats in 2016, with the name of errol spence bringing garcia up in a rash.
Two old timers have also done their best to show they can cherry pick with the best of them, manny paquiao deciding jessie vargas (the guy who lost to the guy pacquiao last fought) was a more suitable opponent than p4p ranked terence crawford. Wladimirs apparant lifelong dream of regaining the wba title led him to change his mind at the last minute and fight unheralded lucas browne instead of joshua in what would have been a huge heavyweight clash.
Eubank jr losing his pen and adopting the stance of not fighting anyone above domestic level is surely worth a mention, whilst danny jacobs has thrown his name into the mix by suddenly deciding he needs a tune up against golovkin despite having just fought a tune up level opponent.
David Haye and Deontay Wilder have also not covered theirselves in glory this year with their choice of opponents, whilst bille joe saunders has done his best to kill any momentum from previous years by scheduling one fight against world number 30 artur akavov
I was going to include a poll with this but having written the above theres far too many names to include and i cant believe how many cases of ducking theres been this year. Im sure i must have missed some names out, so who have i missed out, and what fighter do you think has been the worst ducker this year, or is it hard to narrow it down to one fighter?
