It would be smart for NZ to cough up some dough for this. The event will be a good boost to the NZ economy, and the officials should be able to figure that out.

This is just plain buying a championship. If Parker can't fill the seats in NZ, stop pan handling the public and do it somewhere else. What's the problem? Ruiz is so fat and easy. Take it to the UK, a Joshua undercard.

Sure, if the taxpayer gets a share of all of Parker's future revenue.

Youse guyz are daft if you don't realize this happens all the time in other countries. Not necessarily for boxing cards, but many events are govt funded/partially funded... simply because of how they pump up the local economy. Here in the States our tax $$ subsidize the NFL in case you didn't realize it. But you have no problem with that I guess.

The evidence that they actually prop up the local economy is usually unconvincing. Moreover, there are other, better investments the government could make.

If Duco can't afford to hold it: ok, the government can buy a share of Duco and get a percentage of all their future revenue.

              Otherwise they can **** off.

Govts have taken far greater chances than partially funding an event like this. Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. IMO, NZ govt could do well to make a 'home' for Parker to fight there all or most of the time. Whether it's a boxing heavy country or not, it could be built up to work over time. I'm sure enough Vegas high roller types would be there sooner than later... depending on how it was promoted.
