Vitali was pretty intimidating as well.......but, no doubt, Tyson is/was the most feared fighter at one point or another in his prime. He was an animal. He also happened to kick off a heavyweight renaissance.

Now I can't say for sure how Liston or Baer or even Dempsey were avoided in their day but I know Tyson had guys running for their lives due to his ferocity and ring demeanor. He was the intimidator of intimidators if there ever was one. The thing is that a lot of current fans were not around for those days.

how the hell can you justify other champions/contenders not fighting the champ with the most belt and drawing power at MW?
      it's straight up fear.
stop with this drawing myth, ggg can sell tickets but his live gates are not up to par with the top draws in the sport. the uk fight with brook was big bc of the uk market and even then a $20 ukppv pulled in less revenue than canelo ppv vs smith. his fight vs lemieux topped a 2mill live gate on a 20k sellout, cotto sold less tickets at the barclays vs geale and trippled ggg live gate over 6mill. are there guys ducking ggg yes? yes but i dont see him going to 154 and 168 like his team has stated before he would knock out those guys. dont even get me started on his us ppv numbers.

if he could do it, hed be fighting in those divisions. lara andrade charlos hell even vanes or canelo and cotto would for sure test the waters at 154 with ggg, or go up to 168 for fights with groves, zurdo, abraham, dirrells, degale vs jack winner. the reality is ggg is a mw and thats all his team want him to be. thats how hes marketed. plenty of fighters in the past have been more feard. burley was being ducked by srr, graziano, lamotta and other top wws of his era over fear of how good he was. eddie futch himself talked about how much these guys feared him. those guys are placed in some of the best p4p ranking all time and srr is considered by some the goat. ggg has canelo sturm jacobs saunders ducking him, tell me whom outta those is gonna be on the level of srr graziano lamotta by the time their careers are over?

But everybody signed up to fight Tyson.

No champion or contender actually opted out of the fight. they fought him in his prime.

GGG is not even in his physical prime anymore and yet still... people running

                Suuure

The way he quit on his stool against ex MW Chris Byrd sent shockwaves of fear through the heavyweight division.

It's probably because there isn't good competition at mw, otherwise he wouldn't fight a guy who he once called "too zmall" from ww. One of the dullest weights in boxing right now, with or without Golovkin there wouldn't be any star from that division. Jr mw is much better.
