If you had to put together a 10 man stable...

Just for a bit of fun, lets say you're starting off as a boxing promoter and have a reasonable budget, similar to somebody like Kathy Duva, you haven't got any fighters signed atm and you're looking to sign up 10 fighters to begin with, who do you sign? It's your first year of promoting, you have 3 HBO/Showtime dates, you can have 3/4 fights on each card.

What would you look for in a fighter? How good they are skillwise, how exciting they are, how marketable they are?

For me it would be a combination of those things. I would sign some hungry, unknown fighters who I know have got the skill and will to make a name for themselves, I wouldn't sign already proven stars because it would be a lot more satisfying to make my own stars and already proven fighters would obviously take up a lot more of my budget.

Anyway, here's my 10 man stable:

Jason Sosa 130 - no nonsense fighter, had to work his way up, willing to fight anyone and very affordable

Salido 130 - battle proven warrior and a fan favourite, nobody wants to miss a Salido fight. Fights for peanuts as well, a promoter's dream

Commey 135 - young, hungry, fan-friendly style and talented

Granados 140 - one of the most underrated fighters in the sport today, been fed to lions time and time again, hasn't always won but he's always made the lion work for it, future champ imo

Felix Diaz 140 - another one of boxing's most underrated, extremely skilled and tough, Olympic gold medalist, should be undefeated as a pro, seems willing to fight anyone at 140 or 147

Ponomarev 147 - very young, skilled and exciting. High ceiling and potentially very marketable

Castano 154 - the darkhorse at 154 imo, very fast and explosive, gonna be a problem for anyone at 154

Chilemba 175 - solid contender, doesn't turn down any challenges, very easy to work with

Ugonoh heavyweight - bit of an unknown, but passes the eye test with a blindfold, so worth the gamble. Sound fundamentals, real power and athleticism. Could be a winning lottery ticket

There you have it. Most of these guys are either unknowns or prospects, but they're affordable and potentially future stars, with the exception of 1 or 2 proven veterans, which every stable needs.

Be smart when picking your stable, think long term and which fighters would be easy to work with.

    GO!

          Deontay Wilder
Trey Lippe (both american heavyweights who can punch, very easy to promote)
Luis Ortiz (Will bring the latino fan base)
Andy Ruiz (A mexican enough said)
Adonis Stevenson (Good trash talker, hard puncher)
Sergey Kovalev (Same reasons as stevenson, and for a potential match up)
          Gilberto Ramirez (Mexican)
Demetruis Andrade (Lots of skill with power and trash talking)
Errol Spence (Exciting but needs to start trash talking)
Kieth Thurman (Exciting, trash talker, and potential Spence/Thurman match up)
Plus I can have a Wilder/Lippe all american rivarly
          Ortiz/Ruiz Cuban/Mexican rivarly
          Stevenson/Kovalev will sell easily
Ramirez can face the winner of Stevenson/Kovalev
Spence/Thurman great fight with winner moving up to face Andrade

Affordable? How? I'd hope to capture some alphabet titles and then nurture an Ottke-esque environment for my fighters.

            My stable:

Tony Bellew, Cruiserweight, 28-2-1 (18 KO) - Causes a stir every fight. Could become a lineal champion.

Kell Brook, Super Welterweight, 36-1 (25 KO) - Top operator with potential mega fights on the horizon.

Ryan Burnett, Bantamweight, 15-0 (9 KO) - A very promising up and comer.

Jamie Cox, Super Middleweight, 20-0 (12 KO) - Good fighter who's been held back by outside issues.

Ohara Davies, Super Lightweight, 13-0 (11 KO) - Top young fighter on the verge of crashing the world stage.

Sean Dodd, Lightweight, 12-2-1 (2 KO) - Popular local fighter who's been on the wrong end of some robberies.

Chris Eubank, Jr., Middleweight, 23-1 (18 KO) - Colourful and talented, draws a lot of attention positive and negative.

Carl Frampton, Featherweight, 23-0 (14 KO) - The ***el in the crown; potential for multi-division, lineal titles.

David Haye, Heavyweight, 28-2 (26 KO) - Can create a big buzz and a lot of publicity. Couple of big fights left.

Anthony Yarde, Light Heavyweight, 8-0 (7 KO) - Up-and-coming light heavyweight with a very fan-friendly style.

I'm gonna follow these names and hope to see some of them beat current divas in boxing to pulps. Only way fans could get some sense of future, hope that newcomers take over the current crop.

                  Kind of hard lol.

Andrade- Guess this would be kind of my lower end aka cheapish high level guy that I think is an absolute monster and given the right fights I think he has the personality and skill to be a star.

Eric Lubin- High ceiling imo. Rough neighborhood at 154 though. Would probably let the smoke clear and let a few guys move up before making a big push with him.

Ponomarev- We will have a bidding war, sir. I really like what I see in the guy. Don't think he is a world beater, but a guy that I think can be matched well and have a solid career.

Marcus Browne- Ya ya he has'nt looked good lately, but still think their is potential there.

Gassiev- Think he is biting off more than he can chew fighting Lebedev at this point, but given his age and the potential matchups at CW, would certainly like him in my stable.

Luis Arias- Another guy kind of like Ponomarev in that I don't think he is a world beater, but still a guy that can be manuevered and probably have a solid career.

Mark Magsayo- Really like this kid. Young, exciting, and good power. I think he is going to be a real problem at 126.

Going with that for now. My head hurts from having to think to much.
